How we research

Where our information comes from, how we check it, and what we will never claim.

Our guides are research-based. Here is exactly what that means.

Our sources

  • Manufacturers' official information: specifications, compatibility lists, support pages and announcements from Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo, Valve, The Pokémon Company, Wizards of the Coast and accessory makers.
  • Retailers' published policies: prices, membership terms, return and trade-in rules, as shown on retailers' own websites at the time of writing.
  • Ratings bodies: the ESRB for US game ratings.
  • Reputable gaming and technology journalism for release dates, price changes and industry news — cross-checked against at least one other source, and against the official announcement where one exists.

What we never do

  • We never claim hands-on testing we haven't done. When we haven't used a product ourselves, our recommendations are based on specifications, compatibility and published information — and we write them that way.
  • We never publish fake reviews, invented testimonials or made-up statistics.
  • We never let a brand or retailer review or approve an article before publication.

How we handle prices

Console and accessory prices changed unusually often in 2025 and 2026. We print exact prices only where an official list price is well established, and we date them. Elsewhere we describe price tiers (budget, mid-range, splurge) and ask readers to check the current price.

Keeping guides current

Every article shows when it was last checked. We review guides when prices, products or policies change, and we correct mistakes promptly. If you spot something out of date, please tell us — we read every message.
